🎅🏽 Last weekend we welcomed nearly 200 parents and their children to Maidwell for a magical woodland walk to visit Father Christmas. On arrival, our visitors were met by elves and guided down a twinkly winding path through the woods to discover Father Christmas. Afterwards, everyone warmed up with mince pies before doing lots of Christmas crafts in the library. It was a very happy and magical afternoon. #maidwellhall #maidwellcommunity

It's been wonderful to see the pupils really embracing Cross Country season this term. 🏃‍♂️At the end of last week the Prep School took part in House Cross Country. The additional face paint and missing out the infamous Coleman’s field due to flooding seemed to spur them all on. Beech had a successful morning, winning both the senior and junior races with Oak clinching the win for the Midis. #maidwellhall #maidwellcommunity

Last Week Forms I and II visited The Royal & Derngate for a murder mystery farce based on the popular board game: Cluedo 2. Everyone enjoyed guessing ‘whodunnit’ and we were entertained by a spectacularly high body count! This week we we are looking froward to the pantomime as well as our Pre-Prep's annual nativity play. #maidwellhall #maidwellcommunity

🌲Free choice is a key component of what makes Forest School so special, and this term the children have spent a few sessions choosing what they wanted to do. Some children decided to use the tools, while others opted to make mud pies and build dens, and of course, they were all keen to make something tasty on the fire!🌲

The tree is up and looking wonderful! We have our Forms V & VI to thank for that, as they did a fantastic job decorating yesterday. There's no doubt that our beautiful and historic school looks particularly magical at Christmas. #maidwellhall #maidwellcommunity

This year Maidwell fielded an A and a B team of Form III brainboxes for the annual On the Buzzer competition at Uppingham School @uppinghamschool . The B’s came within a single answer of winning the Plate Competition. Meanwhile, the A team performed most creditably amongst a super strong field, eventually going out in the semi-finals. All the children displayed some impressive knowledge. The Heads of History and Classics were both proud and relieved to hear such correct answers as ‘Dunkirk, ‘Heracles’ and ‘the Great Fire of London ‘! Pre-Prep were really excited to welcome their parents into School for the first Parent Work Share session of the year; the children were proud to show all that they have been learning.

🎶Our inaugural 'Musician of the Year' competition was held last week, kindly adjudicated by Matt Sandy, Head of Vocals at Rugby School. We had six finalists and two 'rising stars'. Last Saturday began with the inter-house hockey and rugby championships, it was truly great to see Forms VI - I (Yr 3-8) fully embracing the inter house rivalry as Ash, Pine, Oak & Beech competed fiercely for their houses in some nail-biting games. Having warmed up with tea by the fire, our families and pupils enjoyed this year's Poetry Competition which saw pupils produce impressive poems based around the theme 'Animal Kingdom'. Thank you to this year's adjudicator, Nafeesa Abdul-Karim, Head of English at Uppingham and Maidwell's Head of English Tamsin Guard for organising such a highlight of our school calendar. Pictured are some the winners and runners-up from each year group, who each read their poems in front of a large audience. 👏👏👏

🍕 Year 2 took a trip to Pizza Express and spent the whole time smiling! The children learnt what is needed to make pizza dough and carefully followed instructions to create the tastiest lunchtime treat!

Last week our Form III's had an amazing trip to The Royal Academy of Arts for a private showcase of the Michael Craig-Martin exhibition. The lucky children took part in a workshop to create their own art in the style of the artist using nothing but coloured tape! They have been studying him in their art lessons, so it really bought it to life for them. #maidwellhall #maidwellcommunity

On the last Friday of every month, Anthony Rendall opens up his office for those who have had birthdays the month before. Hot chocolate or juice, muffins and a spot of Jenga is the plan. This term Form III (Yr 6) have been studying different religions around the world as part of their TPR lessons. To complement this, they visited a local Buddhist centre to put the ideas they have been learning about into context. It really helped bring the teaching to life, with everyone finding it very interesting and enjoyable. #maidwellhall #maidwellcommunity

Year 2 have enjoyed getting stuck into their Autumn Term topic. They have built houses from 1666, baked bread rolls, written about the Great Fire of London and watched our own mini Pudding Lane burn down. How exciting! 🔥

Reception had a wonderful day, exploring all that Stanwick Lakes has to offer. Bird watching was a particular favourite of the children and they were thrilled to watch two beautiful pheasants eating their bird seed. They also enjoyed hunting for signs of the animals who visit the lakeside and making transient art from natural materials 🍂🐇🦆🦡

The children have been crafting with conkers in Forest School over the last few weeks and they are very proud of what they have made. It has given the Pre-Prep the chance to use tools to thread and twist in order to make colourful conker bracelets, and the Prep School have been using their strength and skills to drill, weave and stick their spiders together. #maidwellmatters #maidwellcommunity

Our brilliant Equestrian Team got off to a flying start at the Bloxham Eventer Challenge Series. They collected an individual 5th and 1st, with the team finishing 3rd overall. It is the year 60 AD and Marcus Veranius Maximus has arrived to bring Forms IV & V news of trouble brewing in the East of the country where Queen Boudica is rebelling against Roman occupation! Our children in the junior part of the Prep School had a legendary experience on Roman Day; making bullae, wax tablets and mosaics, performing plays and dance routines, and, of course, perfecting the military testudo (tortoise defence formation).They also learned some ‘alternative’ uses of urine from the Romans, which they found very amusing! #maidwellhall #maidwellcommunity

🍂 Pre-Prep and Junior Prep enjoyed a lovely Harvest Celebration at St Mary's Church. The Autumn themed poetry was wonderful and the song 'Big Red Combine Harvester' was a big hit! Our parents also made generous contributions to the Jubilee Foodbank in Market Harborough🌾

What a great time we all had at our U10 & U11 Rugby Festival on Saturday. We hosted 9 teams, a mix of rugby clubs and schools, for an afternoon of great sport and sportsmanship. Congratulations to our boys who gained a 🥇and🥉. And a thank you to all the parents who cheered and chatted in the autumn sun. 👏

Reception were very busy last week, exploring changes of state with ice balloons, creating Percy's friend Mole a pair of glasses with junk modelling materials, and learning to write the letter 'b' in our super sand trays. Such happy busy bees! 🐝

Our U11s had a fantastic day at Bloxham School last weekend for their rugby festival. There was some excellent play both in attack and defence and great team spirit all round. The Prep School have enjoyed their autumn Forest School sessions since the start of term. They have built rafts and tested them on the lake, picked forest fruits to put into a fire-baked crumble, and tested our new storm kettle for hot water too! We are looking forward to plenty more fires as the weather gets colder!

Opening gambit!! Last night the library became a picture in concentration as this year’s house chess competition got underway. You could almost hear the cogs whirring as sixteen of our grandmasters and grandmistresses locked mental horns over their boards. A huge thank you to Kettering RFC for hosting the Maidwell 1st XIII yesterday evening and providing them with an opportunity to play on a professional ground and under floodlights. Our inter-house competitions kicked off with a very sporting evening of House Golf. A glorious autumn evening, saw lots of very impressive driving although not all the putting was predictable. Something to practise over the coming months! Well done to the older, seasoned players who were very supportive of the younger players. A tight finish.... but Beech clinched first place, with Ash runner up. Golf can be played from Reception onwards at Maidwell, and is fast becoming one of our most popular clubs. Our boarders enjoyed a trip to Woburn Safari Park last weekend, which was a huge success. They saw lions, tigers, black bears, sea lions and giraffes. The monkeys loved the minibus, which caused a lot of laughter, but the overall favourite was the very sweet Red Panda. #maidwellcommunity #maidwellhall

From climbing to painting, and counting to building, our wonderful Pre-Prep children have had a fabulous time settling into the new academic year! 💙

On a beautifully sunny September afternoon, a handful of junior and intermediate members of our Swimming Team took the water, but this time.....on paddle boards! We are very lucky to be only a short drive from Pitsford Reservoir, where we received a taster session from Northampton Sailing club. The pupils enjoyed games like ‘Simon says’ ‘tag’ and team paddling- all testing their balance on water. Lots of fun and plenty of smiles all round. #maidwellhall #maidwellcommunity

The weather on our first day back may be telling us that summer is over, but the children's spirits are definitely sunny! It was great to see the them building dens, on the swings and exploring the grounds. We had a wonderful end to our summer term with a very happy Speech and Sports Day. Rain almost stopped play, but the Maidwell spirit prevailed and we were rewarded with sun and some great competitive races from Reception through to Year 8. We also said good bye to our wonderful Form I's and wished them well at their Senior Schools. We hope that all our Maidwell families are having a relaxing and fun summer holidays and look forward to welcoming everyone back at the beginning of next month. #maidwellhall #maidwellcommunity

🏅Our U13 golf team has had a storming term....winning all of their matches and remaining unbeaten for the last three seasons. ⛳️Golf is one of our most popular activities, with even those in Reception picking up their clubs. #maidwellhall #maidwellcommunity

Having had the fantastic experience of batting and bowling at the Home of Cricket, our 1st and 2nd XI went their separate ways (but not before ‘beatling’ across the iconic zebra crossing on Abbey Road!😉) The 1st XI then played under a blazing sun against a major senior school where they were second best but learned much from their opponents. The next day, they played in a tournament comprising three large London Prep Schools, they won their semi final with a brilliant performance, including a great 50 from one our Form I's. We went on to bowl/field superbly in the final......but were just pipped to the post. The boys regained their strength and morale with a slap up dinner which was walked (partly) off with a stroll in the evening sunshine down Wembley Way. #maidwellhall #maidwellcommunity

Our leavers' have had an absolute blast during their final couple of weeks with us. There's been a trip to London to see the British Museum and Mrs Doubtfire, lots of activities including climbing and tubing, the Leavers' triathlon and even a very enlightening and inspiring careers morning. Our U13 A&B teams are currently having a fantastic time on cricket tours. As well as some very competitive and enjoyable games against other schools, they've had the incredible opportunity of visiting the home of cricket, Lords Cricket Ground.
