Poetry, Passion, and Team Spirit at Maidwell Hall’s Inter-House Championships and Poetry Competition

Posted on: 14/11/2024

Last Saturday was a wonderful celebration of talent, teamwork, and creativity at Maidwell Hall, with both sporting excellence and literary brilliance on display.

The day kicked off with the Inter-House Hockey and Rugby Championships, where pupils from Forms VI to I (Years 3 to 8) took to the field with determination and house pride. It was fantastic to see Ash, Pine, Oak, and Beech competing fiercely in a series of nail-biting matches, showcasing resilience, teamwork, and skill.

After warming up with tea by the fire, families gathered to enjoy this year’s Poetry Competition, a much-anticipated highlight of the Maidwell calendar. Pupils wowed the audience with their original poems inspired by the theme 'Animal Kingdom', impressing everyone with their creativity, confidence, and eloquence.

A huge thank you to Nafeesa Abdul-Karim, Head of English at Uppingham, who kindly adjudicated the competition, and to Maidwell’s Head of English, Tamsin Guard, for organising such a fantastic event.

Congratulations to all who took part and to our winners and runners-up, who each read their poems in front of a large and supportive audience.

What a day to remember – well done, everyone!
